The New Age movement insists on personal experience rather than faith or works, making it more of a Gnosis (understanding that comes not from acquired knowledge but from a salutary intuition, an inner revelation based on the idea that the perceptible world is dominated by evil powers that are hostile to an all-powerful God). This means that the Catholic Church, which still sees Gnosis as a dangerous enemy nearly 2000 years after the eradication of Gnosticism (see http://qe.catholique.org/sectes-et-spiritualites-diverses/3991-qu-est-ce-que-le-new-age), considers the New Age movement to be a powerful threat. There are other neo-religious movements that share New Age's taste for personal experiences and rejection of traditional forms of religion, but these have a less serene, consensual approach. This is the case for the new magical, neo-pagan and occult movements.
Another religious tendency that does not see itself as such is made up of the more extreme forms of «Transhumanism», notably Singularitism, which offers a «technological» version of traditional apocalyptic doctrines (the saviour being a super-intelligent machine which will take us all, or certain chosen ones, to a digital paradise).
